Engaging Biology
Children in both the senior and junior groups study the natural world: flora and fauna.
Thanks to volunteer Innokentiy Treskunov, the children in the junior and middle groups of the summer camp had the opportunity to explore the world of living nature through the “Engaging Biology” project. Innokentiy began giving his first lessons in entomology while still a high school student, and today he is a student at the Faculty of Biology at Moscow Timiryazev Agricultural Academy. He possesses even more extensive knowledge, which he happily shares with his young audience.
In the lessons, the kids receive interesting and engaging information about flora and fauna, as well as useful tips, such as how to distinguish dangerous insects from safe ones. The children eagerly explore Innokentiy's entomological collection, which he has been assembling since childhood. The introduction to these visual aids, accompanied by the future biologist’s captivating storytelling, makes the lessons vivid and memorable.
The kids have already met representatives of the insect world, including butterflies, dragonflies, spiders, beetles, and ants. Innokentiy also prepared an exciting overview of the plant world of the Zailiyskiy Alatau, which, according to the coordinator of community programs at the Rimon Community Center, Viktoria Ozherelieva, was very interesting and rich.
The education includes not only engaging theory but also fascinating practical activities. Last Friday, together with their instructor, the children went on a field trip to the Alma-Arasan Gorge, where they were able to see wonderful representatives of the animal and plant world of our region. During the excursion, the children discovered colorful fragments of mountain rocks in the stream and each chose their favorite stones.
At the end of the trip, everyone enjoyed a picnic where the children eagerly shared their impressions of the excursion. Later, the young naturalists warmly thanked their mentor for the intriguing talk about the flora and fauna of their native region.
