Video Project "Chronicle of Generations"

All three parts of the video project consist of memories of elderly community members.

As part of the "Chronicle of Generations" video project in Almaty, the presentation of the third documentary testimony film of elderly community members who survived World War II took place. Like the first two films, it was created with the support of "Joint" and its screening was timed to coincide with the International Holocaust Remembrance Day, observed under the auspices of the UN on January 27.

The film consists of memories of people who were born before World War II or in the early days of the war, whose childhood was spent in an atmosphere of constant fear and deprivation. Participants shared their memories of relatives and loved ones, of evacuation to Kazakhstan, of how they settled in a new place, and how they led ordinary lives.

Some memories are fragmentary, while others cover long periods, but all of them are important and invaluable as memories of the terrible time our ancestors endured. Despite the hardships endured, all participants noted the support and assistance willingly provided to them by complete strangers. And now, years later, gratitude to the people of Kazakhstan continues to live in their hearts.

The author of the project is a television journalist, volunteer, and coordinator of the project for the older generation "Tzairim Ba Lev" Maria Treskunova. Her idea was to establish a connection between generations using the memories of community members, who, from a first-person perspective, could convey their message to the youth. Personal testimonies of war survivors are invaluable for preserving historical memory of the horrors of wartime.

The heroes of the documentary film are volunteers from the community of different ages. They readily responded to the proposal to record video interviews, and there was enough material to create three films. We thank the author and heroes of this wonderful project, as well as those who helped organize the shootings, edit, and provided other assistance in creating the film!
