Social Creativity
In Almaty, the “Fair of Kindness” project launched in March
Volunteers from the “Tzairim BaLev” club at the Almaty Jewish Community Center “Rimon” initiated a new project aimed at the social integration and creative development of elderly people. As part of the project, active seniors create jewelry, souvenirs, and household items that are later sold at charity fairs throughout the year. The proceeds are used to pay for additional hours for caregivers from the homecare service.

In March, several creative handmade workshops took place. Volunteers crafted jewelry from epoxy resin, dried flowers, and natural stones, as well as scented soap. The first fair was timed to coincide with the Passover holiday. As noted by Maria Treskunova, the project coordinator for active seniors at “Tzairim BaLev,” volunteers did their utmost to ensure the exhibition was a success.

This volunteer initiative is not only important as a charitable event but is equally significant for the socialization of the elderly, who often experience a lack of communication and engagement. During the meetings, seniors connect with each other, discover new techniques, and nurture their creativity. The fair also allows them to receive recognition and tangible rewards for their efforts, while contributing to a worthy cause. According to the project participants, they feel valued and needed — which has a positive impact on their emotional and physical well-being.
