Rosh Hashanah in Tiraspol

For Rosh Hashanah, our volunteers organized a wonderful event dedicated to one of the traditions of the Jewish people - Tashlich.

Tashlich is a special day celebrated at the beginning of the Jewish New Year, and it involves the ritual of casting away breadcrumbs by the water with fish. The reason for this ritual is that, like fish that live in the water and remain hidden from people's sight, we wish to be hidden from the evil eye.

For many participants, this event was their first encounter with this remarkable tradition. Some learned for the first time that casting breadcrumbs on the water symbolizes getting rid of sins and wrongdoings, as well as the opportunity to start the new year with a clean slate.

And, of course, there was traditional refreshment at the event. Apples with honey symbolize a sweet and successful life that we all hope to lead in the new year. Dates, on the other hand, symbolize wishes for abundant blessings and fertility in our lives.

All participants at the event enjoyed tasting these treats and shared their impressions. Many of them noted that the apples with honey and dates were not only delicious but also filled their souls with warmth and hope for a better future. They also expressed their gratitude to our volunteers for the opportunity to learn about this interesting tradition and feel its profound meaning.

We are delighted to have shared this part of Jewish culture with our participants.

Beautiful cards created by 5th-grade students from the Bender Lyceum, along with our volunteer Tatiana Golubchikova, were handed out at the event.

During the event, the Hesed club worker and volunteers, along with young representatives of AJT, helped organize the celebration and took photographs. Everyone left the event with beautiful memorable photos.
