Shabbat Guest Minsk
A project of the Jewish Volunteer Center and the Youth Club "Noar Shemesh": preserving traditions and socialization
As part of the "Shabbat Guest" project, volunteers from our center and the young people from the "Noar Shemesh" youth center visit elderly and immobile clients of the OBEO "Hesed Rachamim" once a month. The guests bring with them the symbols of Shabbat – challah, juice, and candles – to conduct the Queen of Shabbat gathering in accordance with Jewish traditions.
For the immobile clients of Hesed, such visits become a “window to the world,” offering opportunities for communication and allowing them to stay connected to their roots. Although many of the clients cannot leave their homes, they feel part of a large and close-knit family, preserving the traditions of their parents, grandmothers, and great-grandmothers.

On January 24, volunteers from @vcfsuminsk and the youth from @noarshemesh visited Tamara Nikolaevna and Mikhail Naumovich for a Shabbat celebration. Together, we lit the candles and followed all the steps of the Shabbat ceremony.
During the visits, volunteers not only conduct traditional meals but also find out the needs of their beneficiaries. This information is then passed on to OBEO "Hesed Rachamim" to ensure that those in need receive all the necessary assistance.
