"Healthy Food Basket" Project
A food security project for elderly community members
The "Healthy Food Basket" project was created with the goal of establishing a “food safety cushion” for lonely and elderly members of the community.
Project Description:
As part of the project, lonely and elderly members of the community receive balanced food packages that include everything necessary for a healthy diet, as well as hot lunches and warm brunches. Regular meetings with a nutritionist and master classes are also held to instill participants with skills for proper nutrition using seasonal products. Project partners include producers and suppliers of natural products, farmers, stores, and restaurants.
Project Goals:
- Provide lonely and elderly individuals with essential foods for a healthy diet
- Provide project participants with prepared lunches and brunches
- Increase awareness about proper nutrition and healthy eating
- Improve the quality of life and health of project participants through proper nutrition
Role of Volunteers:
- Delivery and packaging of food packages
- Organizing logistics at community and city events
- Sourcing food from partners
- Announcing events within the project
- Creating a friendly and supportive atmosphere during events
- Identifying the needs of community members and including them in the project when necessary
Project Results:
- Providing 50 participants with essential food for a healthy diet
- Improving the quality of life and health of lonely and elderly community members
- Socializing lonely and elderly members by inviting them to project events
- Increasing awareness about proper nutrition among project participants
