Art School

Participants are inspired by the opportunity to immerse themselves in the world of art alongside people with rich life experience.

In February 2026, a new volunteer project called “Art School” was launched at Hesed Polina in Almaty. The decision to start the project came after a survey conducted among members of the “Tsairim” Socialization Club, many of whom expressed a desire to devote time to creativity and learn how to draw.

The project is led by four volunteer amateur artists who have committed to teaching interested and active seniors the fundamentals of painting over the course of a year through monthly masterclasses. Participants will explore the basics of painting, color harmony, light and shadow, composition, and narrative drawing.

The first classes were conducted by volunteer Natalia Kuleshova, an artist whose exhibitions regularly take place within the community. The initial sessions focused on the foundations of painting and color combinations in composition. Natalia believes that it is possible to learn drawing at any age and that it is never too late to realize one’s creative potential. Even if paintings are not perfectly realistic, what truly matters is the feeling and mood they convey

When people enjoy what they are doing, it improves not only their emotional well-being, but also their physical health. Sometimes the best medicine is simply the stroke of a brush or the line of a pencil — a small piece of magic that opens the door to a world of feelings, imagination, journeys, and pleasant memories.

We thank our volunteers for launching this inspiring new project and wish it a long and successful life. We also warmly invite everyone interested to become part of it!
