The Taste of Good Deeds

For Passover, volunteers delivered 800 boxes of matzah to community members’ homes

Passover traditionally calls for a large table and delicious food, and this tradition has remained unchanged for many hundreds of years, helping maintain relationships between people and creating a wonderful festive atmosphere. This year, our volunteers’ good deeds could quite literally be “tasted.” As part of the volunteer project “Fair of Kindness,” on the eve of Passover, a fair-tasting of matzah-based culinary creations was held at Hesed for the participants of the Tsairim club.

Our wonderful cooks — volunteers Olga Babenko, Inessa Chugainova, Galina Arepyeva, Larisa Chirkina, and Marina Sukhomazova — presented their delicious creations for visitors to the fair to enjoy. Guests were greeted by a variety of matzah dishes with delicate and inviting aromas: fruit and cream cakes, sweet rolls, sandwiches, almond flour lebkuchen cookies, matzah brei, pizza, pancakes, cutlets and shawarma, as well as meat and vegetable pies. Those present could take part in a festive tea party and also purchase any dish presented at the fair. All proceeds were directed to the “Fair of Kindness” project.

Community members gladly supported the volunteer initiative, and within just half an hour all the delicious items were sold out! As volunteer Marina Sukhomazova noted: “It is nice to have the opportunity not only to share our old family recipes, but also to do a good deed!”

Matzah also became the hero of another volunteer initiative. Young volunteers from the center delivered 800 boxes of matzah to members of our community! Now, armed with traditional recipes, everyone can prepare many dishes for the festive table! We thank everyone who took part in the holiday events, sharing joy with those around them!
