The Atmosphere of Passover in Karaganda

In March, volunteers began active preparations for the holiday of Passover

Preparation for Passover at the Volunteer Community Karaganda center was rich and engaging. In mid-March, a meeting was held at the synagogue with Rabbi Asher and Rebbetzin Rachel Tumarkin, where volunteers were able to immerse themselves more deeply in the atmosphere and gain a better understanding of the traditions of one of the most important holidays of the Jewish people.

Rachel spoke about Passover, its customs, and the specifics of preparing for it. Volunteers learned how to properly assemble food packages for the Food Security project: which products should be included, which should be excluded, and how certain items can be replaced in accordance with holiday traditions. They also watched an educational video that briefly explained the history of Passover and demonstrated the process of making and baking matzah. These insights will undoubtedly be useful during volunteers’ visits to their beneficiaries.

As part of the holiday preparations, our volunteers also visited the homes of elderly community members to carry out cleaning and provide any necessary household or yard assistance. Thanks to their efforts, even those who are physically unable to prepare for the holiday were able to welcome it in full accordance with Jewish traditions.

We thank everyone who took part in these volunteer initiatives and wish you a happy holiday! Chag Pesach Sameach!
