Socialization at Home

How important it is to spend time with elderly people, providing them with the opportunity for simple communication!

Socialization of lonely elderly people is one of the priority tasks of our center. On July 26, as part of this initiative, Svetlana Marshak, the director of OBEO "Hesed Rachamim," and Alina Lichko, the coordinator of the volunteer center, visited the lonely Maya Yakovlevna. The hostess was delighted to welcome the guests and shared her story and concerns with them.

Maya Yakovlevna's childhood was spent in occupied territory, and her father, Yakov, who worked as a set designer in a theater, ended up in the Minsk ghetto during the war. Despite the many years that have passed since those terrible events, she still remembers her mother's instructions to avoid speaking to strangers to hide her Jewish identity. Years have passed, much has been forgotten, but the trauma and hardships experienced cannot be erased.

Having suffered for her Jewish roots during the war, Maya Yakovlevna now faces the challenge of proving her Jewish identity, as all her documents have been lost! At the same time, the elderly woman is in great need of support, care, and assistance. We will do our utmost to ensure that Maya Yakovlevna officially becomes one of our clients. We hope that, through our channels, it will be much easier and quicker to find confirmation of her Jewish roots!
