Shabbat of Generations

A Friday evening filled with warmth and meaning for volunteers and seniors

At KEDEM, a special event took place — “Shabbat of Generations”, designed to bring youth and the older generation closer together. This evening became a bridge connecting different times and values through unshakable traditions and the continuity of generations.

Shabbat began in the traditional way: volunteers and guests lit the Shabbat candles together. This was followed by the reading of the weekly Torah portion and the singing of songs familiar to many. The key word of the evening was “together”, reflecting everyone’s involvement, regardless of age, in this meaningful shared moment.

Adding special color to the evening was a creative workshop by artist Anastasia Gladchenko, who suggested using the traditional Shabbat symbol — wine — to create bright and beautiful paintings. Under Anastasia’s attentive guidance, guests were able to pour their creative imagination onto paper, expressing feelings, associations, and memories connected with Shabbat.

A true revelation for the younger participants were the stories shared by the seniors. The golden-age guests warmly recalled their childhood, family traditions, and celebrations that brought people together at different times. These stories made the festive evening genuinely warm and family-like, filled with wisdom and life experience.

“Shabbat of Generations” became an open platform where guests found opportunities for personal communication, joint creativity, and building new social connections. We thank everyone who took part in organizing the event, as well as all the participants for their active involvement and dedication to preserving and passing traditions to future generations.
