Shabbat Guest at RVC

Friday is a special day for every Jew—a time to pause and welcome the Sabbath Queen.

One of RVC’s most popular projects is "Shabbat Guest," which helps preserve the beautiful Jewish tradition of celebrating Shabbat in the warmth of family and close friends. Along with the project’s volunteers, a sense of comfort, attention, and joy fills the homes of our beneficiaries.

As part of this project, our volunteers regularly visit elderly and homebound community members to light the candles, recite blessings, and spend the evening in a warm and meaningful atmosphere. These gatherings allow our beneficiaries to feel like part of a larger Jewish community, keeping traditions alive and following the ancient customs of our people.

This February was marked by two important events. On February 13, we celebrated Tu BiShvat—the New Year of the Trees, symbolizing renewal, nature, and the connection between people and the land of Israel. And on February 14, RVC volunteers, along with teenagers from the "Haverim" Youth Platform, visited elderly community members to welcome Shabbat together.

The "Shabbat Guest" project not only preserves essential Jewish traditions but also strengthens intergenerational connections. It brings joy and social engagement to elderly individuals, helping to combat isolation. A huge thank you to all the volunteers who participate in this project and share the warmth of their hearts with those who need it most!
