Ray of Kindness in Shymkent

Thanks to the initiative of volunteers, children received joy and new opportunities!

From March 23 to 25, 2025, volunteers of the Jewish Center, philanthropist Zhanna Zubareva, and multi-functional coordinator Bella Atran brought happiness to the Ponomaryov family from the city of Taraz. A touching event took place in sunny Shymkent—a true ray of light for a low-income family living in the village of Solnechny in the Zhambyl region. The family consists of three members. The mother is divorced, receives no child support, lives in a rented apartment, and cannot work because her son is only two and a half years old and is not accepted into kindergarten. This was the family’s first trip outside their village.

With the support of a caring philanthropist, the Volunteer Center, which focuses on helping those in need, organized an unforgettable two-day tour of Shymkent for the Ponomaryovs. The mother, Tatyana Ponomaryova, and her children—8-year-old Daniela and 2.6-year-old Miron—have faced many difficulties in life. Upon learning about their situation, the volunteers decided not just to provide one-time aid but to give the children emotions and new opportunities. Zhanna Zubareva supported the initiative by covering the cost of the trip, accommodations in the best hotel in the city, and personally helping organize the family’s leisure time.

The first day of the excursion was filled with bright impressions. The family visited an amusement park, strolled along picturesque alleys, enjoyed a delicious lunch in a cozy café, and listened to fascinating stories from volunteers—making the day truly magical. The second day was just as exciting. The family visited a children’s entertainment center and the synagogue of Shymkent, where they met the rabbi’s family and other members of the Jewish community.

The children were absolutely delighted with their time in the city. They received a wealth of positive emotions, learned many new things, and felt truly happy. All participants of this wonderful initiative left feeling fulfilled and joyful, knowing they made the world just a little bit kinder.
