Passover Week Fair

On the eve of Passover, the Jewish community of Shymkent held its annual food fair

On April 9, a charitable fair dedicated to the Passover holiday took place at the Shymkent synagogue. Volunteers developed a very convenient and efficient system for community members in need. Clients over the age of 55, as well as large families, received vouchers worth 10,000 tenge (approx. $20), which they were able to redeem at the synagogue with the help of volunteers. Thanks to this system, those in need received everything necessary for the holiday table — fresh fruits, crisp vegetables, poultry, matzah, and natural juice.

On the first day of the fair, our volunteers Mikhail Mstislavsky and Arkady Rivkin assembled and delivered food baskets to the homes of recipients — primarily participants of community programs who could not make it to the synagogue or Hesed center themselves. On the second day, the community elders received their food packages. In addition to the much-needed provisions, seniors enjoyed the warmth of friendly conversation, discussing a variety of topics with volunteers, including the traditions and meaning of Passover. According to Anna Rybalkina, head of the Shymkent Hesed Volunteer Center, these meetings were heartwarming and pleasant for everyone involved.

The Passover fair became a symbol of unity among Jewish organizations and volunteers, who joined forces to ensure that the holiday was celebrated meaningfully. Continuing a well-established tradition, Hesed and the synagogue co-organized the celebration — a collaboration that not only strengthens the community but also ensures that events are carried out at the highest level.

We thank all the volunteers who took part in organizing and running the charitable fair! More exciting projects lie ahead!
