Masters of Good Deeds
A volunteer creative project by active retirees is helping develop the patronage service of the Almaty Hesed.
This spring, the Almaty Hesed launched the wonderful “Fair of Goodness” project, designed to provide material support to the patronage service. Active retirees participating in the project came together to create beautiful and useful handmade items to financially support the patronage service. Volunteers split into groups based on their interests: one group made knitted items, another crafted kitchen cutting boards, and a third created unique and exquisite resin decorations.
With this rich collection of handmade products, our volunteers participated in four city craft fairs, where visitors showed great interest in these unique items. In addition to the “Fair of Goodness,” our active retirees prepared a delightful surprise for the children of the community kindergarten. They staged a puppet show, “Grandma Pirate,” which charmed both the children and their parents. The proceeds from the performance were also directed to support the patronage service.
As a result, the project raised 576,000 tenge. In October, these funds were used to provide targeted support to 13 clients of the patronage service, who will receive a total of 147 hours of care.
As noted by Director Inessa Chugainova, the Almaty Hesed became the first among similar Jewish organizations to implement such projects. We sincerely thank everyone who actively participates and look forward to more exciting initiatives!
