Let’s Cook Together – Healthy Food
As part of the “Healthy Food Basket” project, we carried out a special initiative called “Cooking Together”.
On April 26 this year, volunteers from our center took part in a major event — International Good Deeds Day. Within the framework of the “Healthy Food Basket” project, we organized a wonderful “Cooking Together” activity to treat our elderly beneficiaries to something tasty, but most importantly — to give them care and friendly communication, which they need so much.
For shared culinary experiments, two simple yet healthy recipes were chosen that anyone can repeat: zucchini fritters and fried eggs with spinach and broccoli. If you enjoy discovering new cooking ideas, you can easily prepare them with your loved ones. Here are the recipes from our volunteers:
Zucchini fritters:
Ingredients:
Zucchini – 1 pc.
Egg – 2 pcs.
Flour – 2 tablespoons
Sour cream – 2 tablespoons
Salt – ½ teaspoon
Baking soda – ½ teaspoon
Dill – to taste
How to prepare:
Grate fresh zucchini, add eggs, flour, sour cream, and spices, and optionally finely chopped dill. Fry until golden brown and serve with sour cream.
Fried eggs with spinach and broccoli:
Ingredients:
2 eggs
100 g broccoli
50 g spinach
1–2 tbsp butter
Green onion
2 tbsp vegetable oil
Freshly ground black pepper
Salt
How to prepare:
Separate broccoli into small florets and boil for 3 minutes in salted water. Transfer with a slotted spoon into ice water, then dry. Heat a mixture of butter and vegetable oil in a pan, add broccoli, and simmer for 3–4 minutes. Add spinach and sorrel, cook for 1 minute, season with salt and pepper. Make small wells, crack in eggs keeping yolks intact, add spices if desired, and cook until the egg whites are set.
During the joint cooking process and later at the table with volunteers, our beneficiaries had the opportunity to talk about various topics, share their thoughts and emotions, and receive support and understanding. Thus, our culinary initiative became a form of psychological relief for elderly people living alone who need warmth and human connection. We are very happy that we were able to make their lives a little happier, more joyful, and more delicious!
