Launch of the “Food Security” Project

Exciting news from Tiraspol: a vital initiative for ensuring access to quality food for our community has officially started.

In the Tiraspol community, a new project—Food Security—has been launched, aimed at providing our beneficiaries with regular access to high-quality food. The goal of the project is to establish a sustainable support system based on volunteer involvement.

A grant was allocated to the project, allowing the purchase of essential equipment, while community members generously contributed ingredients for baking. In total, the donations included:

The official project launch was highly anticipated and successfully carried out. In February, volunteers first tested the new equipment and presented the community with their first batch of challah. Despite the complexity of the process, the volunteers expertly calculated ingredient quantities to produce loaves of perfect size. The task was greatly facilitated by a 12-liter dough mixer, which allowed 8 kg of dough to be kneaded at once. The first trial yielded 20 delicious, beautifully baked challot weighing a total of 7 kg—ready to grace the Shabbat table.

The second challah baking session of the project proved even more successful. Volunteers baked over 60 challot, bringing joy to beneficiaries in Bender, Rîbnița, and Tiraspol. With each session, volunteers grow more confident as skilled bakers, improving not only in dough kneading but also in braiding the challah. Though they are everyday women, the challot they bake continue to improve, reflecting the love and dedication they put into each loaf.

Today, challot from our volunteers adorn the Shabbat table not only in the homes of beneficiaries but also in the Hesed Tiraspol, the synagogue, and among AJT teens, symbolizing the care and support of our community.

We are confident that the Food Security project will achieve many more milestones and delicious results in the future. We sincerely thank our volunteers for their dedication, eagerness to learn new skills, and for bringing warmth and joy to the homes of our beneficiaries.
