Holocaust Remembrance Day in Tiraspol

A series of significant events were held in Tiraspol to commemorate the victims of the Holocaust.

In memory of the Holocaust victims, a series of meaningful events were held with the support of our volunteers. The commemoration began at the Holocaust victims’ memorial, where a memorial meeting was held. Among the attendees were our volunteers, members of the Jewish community, representatives of various public organizations, as well as concerned citizens. The main message of the meeting was a crucial reminder: “Such a tragedy must never be repeated on planet Earth!”

Following the meeting, as part of the “Uniting Generations” project, volunteers organized a tour for all those interested to visit the historic sites of Tiraspol, which witnessed the horrific events of those years. One of these sites is the Jewish cemetery, where the victims of the Holocaust are laid to rest.

The day before, an online conference was organized by the Ribnitsa Museum of Military Glory and our volunteers. The director, historian, and educator, Alexander Semenovich Stetsky, conducted a presentation on the history of the Holocaust in the Ribnitsa region. People of different ages participated in the online meeting—clients of Hesed, members of Jewish communities in Transnistria, as well as schoolchildren and teachers. After the presentation, the attendees engaged in a heated discussion, addressing various topics, such as the reasons behind the genocide of the Jewish people.

Additionally, among Hesed's staff and clients, volunteers held the #WEREMEMBER campaign in an effort to foster a conscious and responsible attitude toward the importance of preserving the memory of the Holocaust tragedy. We are confident that these events will strengthen the bond between generations and deepen respect for the sacrifice made by our ancestors. We will never forget this crucial lesson in history!
