Culinary Community
As part of the “Cooking Together” project, volunteers and beneficiaries joined forces to celebrate Rosh Hashanah
The wonderful “Cooking Together” project brings together volunteers and their beneficiaries—people who love cooking and delighting others with new culinary creations. This time, the participants gathered to prepare fragrant and delicious tzimmes for the Rosh Hashanah holiday.
Tzimmes is a traditional dish of Ashkenazi Jewish cuisine, made with carrots, dried fruits, and honey or sugar. Sweet tzimmes symbolizes a sweet and prosperous New Year and is an essential part of the festive table.
Participants gathered in the cozy kitchen of our center and enthusiastically got to work. Everyone contributed to the preparation of the tzimmes. Some carefully sliced the carrots into rounds, which symbolize coins and, therefore, prosperity and good fortune. Others prepared the dried fruits, while some kept the atmosphere lively by sharing cheerful family stories and favorite recipes.
The result of this collective effort was a delicious tzimmes, just like the kind our grandmothers and mothers used to make—a true highlight of the holiday table. All who took part in its preparation felt an even stronger sense of unity and closeness, something we especially need in these unsettled times. A little more togetherness, a little more attention—and the world opens up in a completely different way: brighter and more positive. And that is exactly what each of us wishes for in the New Year!
We wish all participants of the project a good and sweet New Year and look forward to many more gatherings together!
