Cooking Together for Rosh Hashanah
As part of the “Healthy Food Basket” project, a special event “Cooking Together for Rosh Hashanah” brought together 25 participants of different generations.
The wonderful “Healthy Food Basket” project continues to bring joy to its participants. This time, on the eve of the long-awaited holiday of Rosh Hashanah, RVC volunteers and senior participants gathered to create a festive atmosphere and exchange delicious recipes. This year, the Jewish New Year — “the head of the year” — coincided with autumn, a time of reflection, spiritual renewal, and hope for a kind and prosperous year.
For our volunteer center, holidays hold a special meaning — they fill life with warmth, foster a sense of unity, and remind us of the values cherished by every family and community. Rosh Hashanah, among others, carries profound symbolism, opening the door to joy, gratitude, and new beginnings.
The festive event “Cooking Together for Rosh Hashanah” brought together 25 people of all ages who joined around one table, eager to share their experiences and learn from one another. The result was a delightful and unexpected addition to the menu — a sweet-and-salty salad made from honey, apples, pears, and cucumbers, whose harmony of flavors surprised everyone. The highlight of the day was a kosher roll made from eggs, cucumbers, and cheese — a recipe that many participants took home to recreate. The meal concluded with light desserts — colorful fruit mosaics and individual honey fruit cups.
But any holiday is not just about delicious food — it’s about tradition. To deepen their understanding of Rosh Hashanah customs, volunteers and senior participants enjoyed quizzes and riddles, which made the festive atmosphere even more joyful, fun, and lively! Everyone left with bright emotions, new acquaintances, and a deeper appreciation for Jewish traditions.
A big thank-you to everyone who took part in this event! Shanah Tovah u-Metukah!
