The volunteer of the project “Assistance. Memory. Generations”, Inna Marcinkovskaya: ” My mom gave me a plain white envelope that came by the mail. Beneficiary — Me, the sender — Yad Vashem. Inside there is a letter stating that my great-grandfather’s name will be mentioned in the Hall of Remembrance…. I looked at the sheet of paper and realized that it is the most important thing that I have done in my life… I have made a long way in order to know something about my ancestors… I was going onto a journey into the dreams of folksy cottages, and on my way I found mass graves and memorial sign boards the same that I have on my chest. And at the next stop — at Yad Vashem I have found the certificate of my great-grandmother, who had escaped from the ghetto at night before its inhabitants — the good and the bad, old and small, were killed … My great-grandmother recalled in her certificate that my great-grandfather Samuel Horosh was shot on the outskirts of the city, near the wall of the brick plant. The policeman, from Velizha at the trial, said: “we have our hands to the elbow in the blood …”. Nothing will wash away this blood… But I returned to my great-grandfather his NAME and the memory to myself. This is the most important thing that I have done in my life… “

My name is Makhlina Evgenia and I am a volunteer! I visit the different Jewish organizations and I am often at different interesting Jewish parties and meetings.
Recently I have more and more begun to think about that the world is very cruel and about the fact that it is necessary to learn to create good things and to live in the peace. I am inspired by only one word… Kindness, because it really means a lot of things: the help, happiness, smiles, and a lot of other things.
My first project with “Juice” was the Fieldman project. When I was going to this project, I didn’t think of the fact that it would be so cheerful and interesting. But it has turned out that it has really brought me much pleasure, and of course many selfie)))
I am very thankful to this project for an opportunity to spend time with advantage, but at the same time it is interesting to spend the time with the remarkable people. I hope, we will be able to help a bigger number of people!

If you are looking for a volunteer who wants to participate in everything that happens, so this is Julia Potikha. That is what Julia says about herself: “Hi. My name is Julia, I am 20 years old. I am a student, a poetess and, simply, a volunteer.

The Volunteer Center, unfortunately, she did not enter immediately, it was with the help of the Youth Club “Derech” in Beit Grand. What for do I volunteer? I do volunteering work, in order to direct my energy, which is more than enough, to the right direction. It is very important to feel useful to those who surround me. And also it is important to develop yourself in various interesting directions.
The relevance of volunteerism, of course, is that there are always people in need of assistance. And, the most important moment is, that there is always someone who will gladly help them.
The volunteering is the relationship between the thousands of people who work as one big body. For someone to screw a light bulb is the difficult work, but for someone else, it is like to click your finger. So, why not to introduce them for the successful cooperation. Thanks to such work the society blooms in my eyes. This gives me the faith in the surrounding world, invaluable experience and good people. »

I also try to participate in various Volunteer Community activities. Whenever I am asked why I do this, my answer is always the same: “When there are people who need help, there am I who have time to give it.” My life is full of emotions and wonderful events, so why not bring happy minutes to someone else’s life if I have the will and the opportunity?

Unfortunately, we live in time, which is difficult for our country, when even the smallest help can be irreplaceable and rather important. It would be desirable to believe that, despite the short term of existence of our Volunteer center, the support given to someone and the help, became really powerful and valuable.

Frida Alexandrovna Novgorodova (Unikel), 71 years old.

Currently retired. Frida Alexandrovna is fond of knitting and cooking. She also likes working in the garden.

She has actively involved in community activities for more than 10 years. At first, she called the wards by phone and informed them about community events. She took part in the preparation of joint projects for the “golden” age members of the community.

Then she worked as a patroness, as long as her state of health allowed her.

Participation in the volunteer movement makes Frida feel her own importance and necessity for society. Being active does not allow her to stay at home and concentrate on her problems.

I am a teacher-volunteer with a big work experience. I am not indifferent to everything that occurs in Jewish community and not only there. I managed to start many projects, among which there are Sunday school that became one of the best Sunday schools in Ukraine and the first Jewish kindergarten “Prakhim” at the municipal pre-school institution №81. This project was launched with incredible difficulties and it has been working since 2000. I have worked it up and successfully presented it when I studied at the Jerusalem University according to the Melton program for teachers of the Jewish education.I have also initiated and organized such projects as:

1) Publication of the book-almanac “Shofar” about the history of Jews living in the Cherkassy region (assistance in preparation and publication);

2) Organization of a traveling exhibition “Anne Frank. History Lesson” and holding the city competition of compositions in this subject;

3) Help in perpetuation of the Righteous gentile A. Shulezhko (organization of anniversary actions in the city, edition of the book “Pam’yaty Slavetnoy Zhemlyachky”, participation and help in installation of a memorial board in the city);

4) Publication of methodical works and scenarios of the Jewish holidays (“New Jewish School” Publishing house, St. Petersburg).

5) Writing poems and songs for children, poetic translations from Hebrew and Yiddish for vocal collectives.

The Jewish period of my life began in 1993 when I returned to my hometown from Poltava. In 1994 my volunteer activity in the Jewish community had started. Doing good deeds, having satisfaction from the fact that you help somebody, and a pleasure from self-realization is what unites all volunteers! I still continue my volunteer activity in the community. I am the Head of Literary club in Hesed and every month, even several times a month, hold thematic meetings with the participants of the Jewish revival programs. I have brought up many generations of the Jewish children. Together with the knowledge of the Jewish culture I strive to foster the desire to do good.

Having Jewish roots it is not surprised that Svetlana became the member of the big family of the Volunteering Club. It is already about 6 years that she takes an active part in the volunteering and participates in the organization of different events. Svetlana considers that if you have time and desire, so why not to use them to help people who need it. Moreover, if we take into consideration that from people’s positive emotions and good reaction, you yourself charge with this energy.

First time Svetlana started her volunteering in the summer camp, where her daughter spent time. Svetlana was asked to replace one of the camp counselor. She was given a group of 20 children and 15 minutes for their organization. Till the end of their classes everybody had created plenty of paper frogs. Also Svetlana remembers very well the project dedicated to the help of veterans. As for her, these things are holy, because her father also was a soldier in the war.

The positive part of the volunteering is that you can organize something really very great, that is not always can be created when you are alone. Moreover, the work in the team is much more interesting. The most important reason that Svetlana takes part in the volunteering is the bright eyes of those who you help. The family of Svetlana completely supports her volunteering and often helps in the organization of different projects.

The volunteer is a person with a huge soul. The person who remembers that the commandments exist not only to get to the heaven one day, but also to create the heaven on the land. And in order to understand this feeling better, once you should try it by yourself.

I participated in the projects “Recipe book”, “Good Deeds Week”, “Trips to the orphanage,” and now I am a leader of the youth club and the volunteer project of the AJT “Vishuddha”. I would like to wish all the volunteers not to stop developing and spreading their activity, because volunteering gives us inspiration to live.

I do volunteer work from the year 2013. I used to work only on sporting events such as the Universiade, the fire of the Olympics, the WORLD CUP for fencing etc. The volunteering has helped me in finding new friends, to communicate and in the practice of foreign language. Now, working in the community, I’m starting to get interested in the volunteering of its other side : the help to the older people and children. I madly please to be helpful in this mortal world and I try to help, to do good things and to be always in the center of events. 🙂
And the relevance of this issue now is quite high because people will always act to the effect of “Tom Sawyer”: one started, the others I want to do it, too. Here is no exception, when people saw and are interested in such a thing as volunteering, they immediately want to be involved in everything that is connected to this beautiful case as volunteering. Everybody began to help, and to work together for the benefit of the humanity, and so on.
Plus, it must never be forgotten about the fact that people will always compete with those who are similar to them and when someone sees that his friend/rival/teammate turns out to work the volunteer better, more and qualitative, so then this someone begins to pursue higher goals and in volunteering too

My name is Alexandra, I am 15 years old. I am a volunteer! And I am proud of it! I go to the community since my childhood, and I have endured a lot of things with its participants. I visit Hesed every week. I am a participant of the Youth club “Kokhavim” the pupil of Sunday school. It gives me much pleasure. I found many friends in the community. When the new guys come to us, we accept them with pleasure and we try to make for them as much comfort as possible in our community. One of my main occupations in the community is a volunteer activity. I like to help people and animals, and to carry out various social events! Together with our Youth club and Volunteer Network we realize many interesting ideas of our leader, Valeria Tsareva. We are lucky to have such a leader. We visit animals’ shelter, we help elderly people and the children of risk group, FRP. Now in our community two new actions started: the collecting of the waste paper and the collecting of the used batteries. It is very important for the nature keeping and for me. As for me, it is very interesting and cheerful to be a volunteer, and, above all — it allows me to feel necessary and useful to the surrounding people, animals and the nature. Smiles of the children, happy muzzles of the dogs and pure natural zones without any garbage — here is the main award of the volunteer!!

Yuri Tarasov takes an active part in all Jewish Renaissance Programs of Konotop.
He started organizing Jewish holidays even before the Jewish Community Center was open, namely, in 1993 when the Jews of Konotop founded the Konotop Jewish Community LEBN (which means “life” in Yiddish). Later, the Konotop Jewish Community Center “Hesed Ester” was open, and Yuri has always participated in all Jewish Community events since then.
Seven years he had lived in Jerusalem, then he returned to the Ukraine, and has lived in Konotop for the past seven years. He works as a Psychiatrist and takes care of his elderly mother.
Yuri is a member of the board of the Konotop Jewish Community LEBN. He is an active member of the Family Club. He takes an active part in all activities carried out at the Sunday School funded by the L. A. Pincus Fund for Jewish Education in the Diaspora. And, of course, he always meets the Sabbath Queen with the Jewish Community members.
People with interest listen to him when he expresses his point of view on Torah chapters and on other Jewish sacred texts.
Every year, the Global Day of Jewish Learning unites people around the world, and Yuri helps us organize the event in our Community. He also helps our volunteers organize the Purim Spiel and other Jewish holidays.
Every spring, along with other volunteers, he plants trees and flowers in the Jewish Community garden.
“We have to stick together”, – he says.
As a volunteer doctor within the framework of the project called Doctors without Borders, Yuri delivers lectures. Both Hesed clients and the activists of the Konotop Jewish Community Center “Hesed Ester” attend his lectures because he addresses common health problems and gives valuable recommendations on a healthy lifestyle.

I became a volunteer because volunteering is a great opportunity to help people, to communicate, to develop, to implement my ideas, learn and improve myself. I think it is stupid to sit still, sighing about how bad is when you can move forward, changing ourselves and the world! As part of the volunteer center, I have managed to take part in projects such as “Help without limits”, “Children’s Dream», «Shabbat to Go», «Good Deeds Week”, and also participated in writing of newspaper “Mazel Tov”. I am very pleased that I can help people and make them happy!

I am a student at the university, extra work is in the fitness club, but, somehow, this little for me — I have two days off, and one of which I dedicate to the volunteer work. I teach dancing classes for the children from 3 to 12 years and as a volunteer, I also, teach dancing the grandmothers. As for me, all of them are my favorite. The youngest of my student is 3 years old, while the oldest is 82. This is so cool!
As for me, the volunteering is a way to combine business with pleasure. Dances give me the lightness and energy, and the communication-joy and fun. I like to follow the changes of my students, when they become more confident and opener. I like the process when the ideas of choreographic productions are realized successfully. I like to see when my girls smile at the end of the lessons.

But she has achieved special achievements in the studio of the painting and in the literary creativity: her works were repeatedly published in the magazines of children’s creativity, organized by Emuna. In 2009 Natasha together with the other talented children had participated in the Republican Creative Camp, organized by Emuna. Together with her parents Natasha repeatedly visited the family camps and participated in  Shabbats, and participated in communal holidays. Natasha Iosub is a striking example of the young leader who has grown up in Emuna and is an illustration of the continuity of children’s and youth programs. The time went on, and children’s studios were replaced by the youth programs. Natasha attended the School of madrikhs, participated in the Shabbatons for young leaders, including the Easter project. Now Natasha is the participant of the AJT projects. Recently she has returned from Boston where she participated in the Annual International Conference 2016 BBYO. Belarus has been presented at such significant forum for the first time.

It would be more correct to say that this is very important for me.
As, I consider that the volunteer movement is the voluntary movement directed to the improvement of the life.
And the volunteers are the people working voluntarily, with the agreement and personal desire. The world is not without kind people. And not everything can be made always with the money.

Now, I, with my children, supervise the lonely grandmother. The life of the other person can be made more interesting and more joyful not only with the supporting him financially. I don’t grudge my time, or forces, and again I am convinced to think that giving something, you receive in exchange much more!

Lyuba was born and grew up in Tomsk (Russia) in the family of radio engineers. Then her father was transferred to the city of Rivne, so, the whole family moved here. About 12 years ago Lyuba’s father left for Germany. A few years later, Lyuba’s sister Vera with her children also immigrated to Germany.

Lyuba graduated from the Department of Pharmacology of the University of Chernivtsi and has been working for many years as head of a pharmacy.

She is married and has a son, Mikhail. She lives with her husband Oleg and her mother Nadezhda Zarkh who sings in the Freileche Neshama choir.

Lyuba and her whole family take an active part in all Jewish Community Programs. Her son Mikhail attends children’s creative studios and the Sunday School. They go to Shabbatons and family camps. They are members of the Young Family Club and participate in almost all Community projects and celebrations.

When Rivne Volunteer Community was founded, Lyuba and her husband came up with great ideas: Lyuba runs the Flea Market Project and Oleg runs the Beauty and Health Project. Lyuba got this idea because she is fond of fashion and hates to throw clothing away.

Wonder Hat Project is another great idea of hers.

Her motto is: “It is easy to do good deeds but it is hard to forget about them”. That is why she helps others.

What does volunteering mean for me? This means to live with heart, to do what you can without expecting payment or praise. I like very much to be a volunteer. I’ve experienced it myself, and I believe that to help others, to take care of others, to enjoy and to have fun with the process is the most natural desire of a person.

I’m studying art, I’m fond of literature, modern art and writing plays.

The idea to become a volunteer came to me a long time ago. It happened before I got to know the cultural center “Menorah” and the “League of Volunteers”. It all started with a project to help veterans in Ekaterinburg.

Later, when I was already in Menorah, I became a volunteer in the “Keeping stories” project, collecting stories of war veterans. Due to this project I started to join other projects related to the gifts delivering, collecting things, helping older people and children with special needs. Sometimes, it is necessary to make 5-6 visits for couple of hours, but everyone is filled with positive impressions and emotions about what you are doing.

First of all, volunteering for me is communication with people whom I could never meet outside the project; the opportunity to “grasp” the story. It helps me to expand my vision. So in a way, I pay tribute to people, thanks to whom we live in a peaceful time, preserving the history of their lives. I really want the project “League of Volunteers” to continue to develop and increase the number of volunteers and initiatives for them.

I am a volunteer, I like to write prose, act on stage or put on small plays.

My volunteer career started with a Shabbat at home of an elderly single woman, who has hearing problems. I also worked with children with disabilities.

I do volunteering because I like to make people happier, make them smile, give them attention and let them understand their importance. I also like to feel that people need me while helping them.

At the moment I am working on creating a project for BBYO and I have already two ready-made projects.

Eremina Margarita, I am 26 years old. I study in college of art and culture on theatrical creativity, and I also participate in the youth Jewish theater.
I have got to the volunteer center because I attended the youth Jewish club, and I have learned about such remarkable programs.
Why am I engaged in the volunteering? Why is it actual today? To bear to people good things is the same as the most valuable gift; people became more mercantile nowadays, and now even the smile on their faces is a rarity, to see a smile on their face is a great happiness for me and pride there are the same adherents with me as I am. The time which is spent for the volunteer actions, I consider the most wonderful and the most remarkable because at this time we give the happiness to people.

It is necessary to help those who need the help and just to put yourself to the place of other persons. Not everybody has the opportunities the same that we have, and namely, for example, the material benefits therefore — “it is necessary not only to take, but also to be able to give”. And it concerns not only the material things
I like to help people because I don’t stand when someone suffers and if I understand that it is in my forces to make the person slightly really happier, then I do everything possible for this purpose.
